Who Can Go Heli Skiing?

photo

Heli skiing is not for beginners, but it also isn’t for experts only. The ski movies filmed in Alaska are fun to watch, but most people do not ski that type of terrain, or even want to. Alaska is about great powder skiing and having fun. We have terrain for everyone (and yes we have movie type terrain), and can accommodate people from good intermediates to the best of the best. Anyone going heli skiing should be a solid intermediate, able to make good parallel turns in all conditions on blue and moderate black diamond trails. With the advancement of powder/fat skis, powder skiing experience is not necessary. If you can ski groomers, you can ski powder. Don’t be embarrassed or intimidated if you have not skied powder before as our guides are also instructors. We will coach and teach you powder skiing techniques, as well as advanced skiing skills, safety protocols, and mountain awareness. We provide the finest in powder skis, K2 and Meier Skis to help you enjoy your powder experience.

We cater to good intermediate to expert skiers, snowboarders, and telemark skiers. Our guests are generally grouped according to like ability and like mindedness to optimize the enjoyment of everyone. Any skiers or riders travelling in groups are also matched up. Groups usually consist of five guests (never more, usually less, group weight restrictions may apply) and one guide.  Private groups may be up to ten skiers in one group accompanied by two guides.

There is no reason to be timid about heli skiing in Alaska. We strive to ski high quality powder and terrain that suits your ability. Skiing is about fun, and yes challenging yourself and your ability level, though all within reason. If you love to ski, or even like to ski, a trip to Alaska is like nothing you will ever experience. If you have any questions give us a call or send us an email and we would be happy to speak with you about any concerns you may have, our packages, and how we can accommodate you.

We recommend that you spend some time brushing up on your skills and get some days in at your local resort prior to coming out to Alaska. And don’t worry, there is no jumping out of the helicopter. The helicopter safely lands on the snow/ground before you exit.

We welcome snowboarders and telemark skiers. The guidelines for skier’s ability holds true for our snowboarding and telemark cohorts.

If you have a friend or loved ones who don’t ski, but still want to experience Alaska, let us know and we can accommodate them as well.

STILL NOT SURE?

Book your own private group.

Would you prefer to have a private day without the added pressure of others in your group? Simply purchase a private trip, and then you choose as many, or as few people in your group as you like. The advantage is, you get to set the pace and your guide will be able to customize the day to better suit your needs. In addition to being avalanche and medical professionals, our guides are also skilled ski instructors. We would be happy to customize and tailor a trip to your specific wants and needs.
